ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WKBW) — Baby Nancy, Sidewalk Chalk, and the game Jenga make up this year's list of inductees into the National Toy Hall of Fame.
The Class of 2020 was revealed this morning at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester.
According to the museum, "The popularity of Baby Nancy exposed a long-standing demand for ethnically correct Black dolls that the mainstream market had failed to deliver previously." The doll was first introduced in 1968.
Jenga was created by Englishwoman Leslie Scott, who got inspiration for the "you take a block from the middle and you put it on top" game by the wooden blocks she played with as a child in Africa.
Sidewalk Chalk got the nod for giving children the means to express themselves in a creative way. "Great masterpieces, clever doodles, informational expressions, educational lessons, and games like tic-tac-toe, hopscotch, and four square all dance together on the tip of a piece of chalk, waiting to be freed by a child’s whim," the museum said.
Other classic toys that were finalists this year but did not make the final cut included Lite-Brite, Masters of the Universe toys and My Little Pony.
