BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Canadian 3D printing and medical company Thinking Robot Studios announced plans to build a manufacturing facility in Buffalo.

Thinking Robot Studios announced it purchased 22-acres of land at the Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park.

“This announcement allows our company to advance toward the creation of a dynamic, 75,000 sq. ft. advanced manufacturing and imaging facility right here in Western New York,” said Gregg Gellman, Chief Executive Officer and Partner, TRS. “We are extremely excited to move this project forward in the weeks and months ahead. Our proprietary technology leads to precision surgery with diminished risk and decreased rehabilitation time, while maintaining superior quality and increasing positive clinical outcomes for patients who require orthopedic surgery.”

The land sale agreement with the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation (BUDC) Terms includes the acquisition of five parcels at a purchase price of $42,500 per acre, for a total cost of $935,000.

“As Chairman of BUDC, I am thrilled that Thinking Robot Studios has chosen to locate in the City of Buffalo at Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park,” said Byron Brown, Mayor, City of Buffalo. “TRS is the type of innovative company that will continue to perpetuate the advanced manufacturing job growth goals that we have established as a priority for the City. We believe that BLCP is a perfect spot for TRS to establish a 3D Printing cluster with their notable international partners, which will serve as a destination for further development.”

Officials with Thinking Robot Studios say the expansion into Buffalo could bring hundreds of jobs to the company over the next couple of years.
