BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Two people have been arrested after attempting to cross the border with nearly 50 pounds of marijuana hidden in spare tires.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers and their K-9 partners found the 48 pounds of marijuana inside of a cargo van at the Rainbow Bridge on Monday.

Officers arrested two U.S. citizens after the search of the van.

The packages of marijuana discovered have a domestic street-value of about $45,000, according to CBP.

"This seizure demonstrates that close collaboration between HSI and CBP can have a significant impact on stemming the flow of illegal narcotics," said Kevin Kelly, special agent in charge HSI Buffalo. "By working with our law enforcement partners on both sides of the border, Homeland Security Investigations will continue to identify, disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations engaged in cross-border crime."
