BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Amherst police say a man is in custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle and fleeing from police Monday.

According to police a vehicle was reported stolen Monday around 7 a.m. from 20 Flint Road. Later in the morning an Amherst police officer located the vehicle on Englewood Avenue with suspect Justin Poulsen standing in the door.

Police say Poulsen was given commands by the officer and allegedly refused to comply and began to flee. The officer took physical hold of Poulsen and a struggle ensued with Poulsen allegedly reaching into his pockets. Police say at that time the officer disengaged as there were reports of Poulsen possessing handguns in the past.

According to police another officer arrived at the scene and Poulsen allegedly pulled a stun gun from his pocket and began threatening the officers. A foot chase ensued and Poulsen then allegedly ran into an address on Heath Street in Buffalo.

Poulsen then exited the house and fled on foot westbound before he was taken into custody by Amherst and Buffalo police. Police say a taser was deployed during the arrest. He was medically cleared and returned to the Amherst Police Department for processing.

Police ask anyone with information regarding this case to call (716) 689-1311.
