TOWN OF HOPEWELL, N.Y. (WKBW) — An Ontario County man died while investigators say he was trying to rescue several victims involved in a jet ski crash.

This all happened Saturday night, along County Road 4 in the Town of Hopewell, southeast of Rochester.

Deputies say an eight-year-old boy and a man were riding the jet ski when it flipped in a small body of water.

38-year-old Christopher Barber of Bloomfield saw the crash and jumped into the water to save both victims.

Investigators say Barber was unconscious and unresponsive by the time they arrived.

The boy was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital. The other victim was taken there, too.

There's no word on either of their conditions.

The crash remains under investigation.
