TOWN OF WARSAW, N.Y. (WKBW) — A 38-year-old man is charged with leaving his dog in a vehicle during extreme temperatures.

Wyoming County deputies responded to a call at a Walmart parking lot in Warsaw on Saturday, reporting a dog locked in a vehicle. Deputies say the dog was sweating profusely, breathing heavily, and having a hard time keeping its head up.

Officers were able to unlock the vehicle and give the dog water.

According to police, Jeremy Harris, the owner of the dog, says he did not intend to be in the store for as long as he was.

Harris is charged with confinement of a companion animal in a vehicle during extreme temperatures. He's due in court at a later date and may face a fine.
