ALLEGANY COUNTY, N.Y. (WKBW) — An Allegany County man is facing charges after police say he injured a one-year-old and may have caused a significant brain injury. The child is now in guarded condition at Golisano Children's Hospital in Rochester.

Police were called to Jones Memorial Hospital Monday for a call of a child with significant head injuries. They investigated and arrested 25-year-old Shane Kranock from Belmont. They say Kranock may have dropped the child after changing a diaper, but that the child's injuries were not just from a fall. They also say Kranock was high on heroin at the time the baby was injured.

Kranock was taken to State Police in Amity and arraigned in the village of Belmont Court. He's facing charges of 1st degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was taken to the Allegany County Jail.
