The family of a young man is grieving following a tragic accident in the north towns.

21-year-old Ryan Torrey, of Lockport, died over the weekend at the Erie County Medical Center.

According to friends, he hit his head while skateboarding about a week and a half ago at the Alix Rice Skate Park in Amherst. The accident left him in a coma.
Friends said Torrey wasn't wearing a helmet when he fell.

Much like riding a bike, state law requires skateboarders under the age of 14 wear a helmet in public areas. Anyone older rides at their own risk.

Torrey’s funeral services are scheduled for June 18th. The family is asking donations be made to the Peace Park in Torrey’s name.
