LEON, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Leon woman faces some serious prison time after pleading guilty to duping a man out of nearly $180,000 she said was for "out-of-state medical bills."

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says 33-year-old Ashley Knopf pleaded guilty to a felony second-degree grand larceny charge in State Supreme Court Tuesday.

She admitted she befriended the 62-year-old victim and convinced him she needed money to pay for medical treatment at out-of-state facilities. Between December 2018 and February 2020, she stole $177,488 from the man. The evidence showed she was in Western New York the entire time.

Knopf faces five to 15 years in state prison when she's sentenced on March 15, 2021.

She remains released on her own recognizance.
