ALBION, N.Y. (WKBW) — Check your social media accounts, that's the message coming from the Albion Police Department and from the F.B.I.

This comes after an Albion student's Facebook page was apparently hacked over the weekend by someone in Croatia. On that account, investigators say the fake user posted a message threatening violence at an unspecified school.

The F.B.I. believes the account was taken over through a malware attack on a phone. They say similar incidents have been happening across the country.

Investigators say while the posts were not determined to be a credible threat, Albion Police will have an increased presence at the school on Monday.

Albion Police is now reminding everyone to monitor their social media accounts and to change passwords regularly.

Any suspicious activity observed either online or in person should be immediately reported to 911.
