NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A local leader and community members in North Tonawanda are calling on State Sen. Rob Ortt (R-North Tonawanda) to clarify his stance on LGBTQ rights.

The call comes after Ortt donated to a controversial organization that supports gay conversion therapy for kids.

The New Yorker's Family Research Foundation is a Christian organization that is historically anti-LGBTQ.

Western New Yorkers have been sending him letters asking him where he stands on LGBTQ issues.

A resolution calling on Ortt to speak on the issue did not have enough support to be voted on by the North Tonawanda Common Council Tuesday night.

“Senator Ortt supports the rights of all New Yorkers to live their lives free of discrimination, including individuals in the LGBT community. Using his support of pro-life values to insinuate otherwise is plainly wrong. Senator Ortt respects people of different values and beliefs,” says Andrew Dugan, spokesman for Sen. Rob Ortt in a statement.
