FORESTVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — Teri and Mike Weinheimer have lived in their Forestville home for 28 years. During the summer of 2017, the family contracted a local company to tear down their garage and build a new, while also adding a sizable addition to their home.

“I went on Facebook and looked for contractors,” Teri said.

When she found one, the family was quoted $53,000 for the new garage and addition. The contractor asked for half down, and the Weinheimers say they took out an extra mortgage on their home to deal with the cost.

“He kept asking for more money,” Teri said.

The only work that was done was tearing down the old garage that once stood. The family says they never heard from the contractor again.

The contractor was arrested and charged with grand larceny and fraud. He was ordered to pay nearly $30,000 in restitution to the Weinheimers. He was only giving $25 a month, and at that rate, it would take more than 150 years to pay back. After COVID-19 hit, the Weinheimers say they stopped receiving any payments.

“They took these people’s hard earned money, the equity out of their home,” said Brian Marsh at Modern Window.

That’s where the folks at Modern Window in Orchard Park comes in. The Weinheimers purchased a special window for their addition and those at Modern Window said they wanted to help out.

They started this Go Fund Me account to help the Weinheimers get the addition they deserve.

“Not if but when they get their building, we would like to donate the window’s for their new building,” Marsh said.
