BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Netflix show "Tidying up with Marie Kondo" premiered only two months ago, but has helped a global trend of de-cluttering your home. The organization guru's famous line "Does this spark joy?" has become a lifestyle for some.

Home renovation blogger Ann Marie Heasly found solace in de-cluttering long before the organization trend all during Lent eight years ago.

"I thought I'm not just going to do the challnege, I'm going to post one and see if we can all get together," Heasly recalled. The Chicago-suburb mom of six said since starting the challenge in 2011, her following has grown to now over 80,000 Facebook friends all partaking in "40 Bags in 40 Days." An idea she trademarked in 2017.

She challenged her followers, each day, to focus on an area of your home or life to "declutter" and "organize."

"It's amazing to hear the ways that this has helped so many people." Through the 40 day challenge, Heasley urges anyone partaking to consider donating or recycling the bags of items each day.

"It's nice to remove that excess noise and get it out of our minds, get it out of our houses, so we can focus on the things that matter to us."
