BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Latia Boykin knew something was off when she was told there was a police standoff at her mother's apartment, last Friday.

Buffalo Police swarmed an apartment building on the corner of Ferry and Jefferson to arrest her brother, Charles Jones, 24, for allegedly murdering his ex-girlfriend.

“I took my brother in, three years ago. I took care of him and he was a typical little boy. He was happy. This is something I would never imagine,” said Boykin about her brother.

She couldn't imagine what police found in the apartment. Boykin and Jones' mother, Alethia Atwood Williams, was stabbed to death in a closet.

Boykin says it was her brother killed her mother.

She hadn't talked with her mother in years and claims that she was abusive.

“She wasn’t a saint, but she’s still my mom,” said Boykin.

Boykin feels that abuse might have played in a role in this crime.

“I think he snapped. I think because of his ex-girlfriend, killing her, he probably went back to the person that caused him to be this way,” added Boykin.

She's not condoning the murder of her mother. She does hope this can be a lesson for people who are struggling and may become violent.

“He's a victim, in my opinion, because he suffered abuse, but I suffered abuse too. And this is not something I would do. You seek help. You do not end a life and assume that will fix all of your problems because it doesn’t," said Boykin.

So far, there are no charges for the death of Alethia Atwood Williams.

Jones is charged with the killing of Jacquette Lee. He is being held without bail.
