Jury finds Buffalo man guilty of murder in deadly shooting on William Street in April 2025

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County District Attorney's Office announced that a jury found a Buffalo man guilty of all counts in the indictment in a deadly shooting on William Street in April 2025.

The DA said that after about 10 hours of deliberation, following a five-day trial, a jury found 32-year-old Mikel Lowe guilty of one count of second-degree murder and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the DA, on April 19, 2025, Lowe intentionally shot 36-year-old Deval Watkins with an illegal handgun in a parking lot on the 400 block of William Street near Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. Watkins died at the scene.

Lowe faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in State Supreme Court on October 8. He remains held without bail.
