JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WKBW) — Jamestown Police are asking neighbors to remove guns and valuables from their vehicles.

Police are also asking people to lock their vehicles when they are left unattended. Authorities say it's not uncommon for people to go around and search to see if vehicles are unlocked.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, theft from vehicles happens year-round and it's difficult to investigate larcenies.

Police say neighbors who leave their weapons unattended in a vehicle and have them stolen can have their permits suspended.
