The Town of Hamburg Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a Lackawanna woman.
The incident happened Monday afternoon on Route 179 (Milestrip Road) and Thruway Exit 56.
Investigators say a Town Highway vehicle was traveling westbound on Rt. 179 when it collided with a car driven by 55-year-old Sharon Sekura. According to investigators, Sekura was traveling eastbound and was trying to make a left turn onto the Thruway on-ramp when the crash occurred.
The Lackawanna woman was rushed to ECMC where she later died from her injuries. No one else was in her car at the time.
Investigators say three employees were in the Town Highway Truck, all have since been treated and released from ECMC.
The investigation is ongoing but no charges have been filed at this time.
The Hamburg Highway Department issued the following statement Wednesday morning:
"This was a tragic accident and our hearts go out to the woman’s family and loved ones. Three Highway Department workers were treated for minor injuries and released from ECMC. There is an active investigation underway, so it is premature to comment any further."
