BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — An inmate from the Erie County Holding Center is in critical condition at Buffalo General Medical Center following a medical incident Wednesday.
The sheriff's office says deputies responded to a medical emergency in the restroom area of a housing cell just before 10 p.m.
Health personnel arrived a short time later and began providing aid to the inmate, according to the sheriff's office. About 15 minutes later, the inmate was able to walk on his own to the infirmary for evaluation. But the inmate became unresponsive around 10:37 p.m.
Medical personnel used CPR and an AED, after which a pulse was detected. He was then transferred to the hospital.
This is the latest emergency medical incident involving an inmate at the holding center. Last week an inmate died after being found unresponsive in a cell. A medical review is continuing.
