BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — To understand what happened today, we have to go back to December when New York Governor Andrew Cuomo enacted the Green Light Law, which gives undocumented immigrants the ability to obtain a driver’s license.

The Green Light Law also prohibits the state DMV from sharing this information with agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement or Customs and Border Protection without a warrant.

The move by the Department of Homeland Security Thursday will now prohibit New Yorkers from signing-up or re-enrolling in Global Entry, Nexus, Sentry and fast trusted traveler programs. This allows vetted, low-risk travelers to enter the US more easily.

The TSA has clarified that its pre-check program will not be impacted.

If you currently have a Nexus pass, you’re okay. If you are trying to apply for one or are trying to renew, the Department of Homeland Security has suspended that access.
