BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — “We really cant wait to get people working out and going again,” Dr. Derek Alessi, owner of Dr. Derek Health and Fitness on Transit Road in East Amherst.
He says they have taken very aggressive steps to make sure the facility is sanitized.

“We have sanitized and cleaned everything to the bones,”Dr. Derek said. He says he has spent around $6,000 getting his facility safe for clients to come back.

But things will be different. People will get their temperature checked, and you have to work out in a mask and gloves. It's something you will definitely have to get used to and control your breathing with the mask on.

“Your ability to take in oxygen is slower so we have to wait a little bit longer in the sets,”Dr. Derek said.

There will be constant wiping down of equipment between uses and using UV wands to help sanitize weights. During this time, Dr. Derek says he's been working with his clients through video and phone calls. But says many are eager to return to their regular workouts.

“Exercising, eating healthy, being consistent, measuring results all of those things together increase your longevity and happiness in life.”

Technically Dr. Derek’s Health and Fitness falls under personal services and will reopen Wednesday morning. New York state has not announced what phase gyms and fitness centers can reopen.
