BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — You can't go to the hair salon to get your hair done. The next best option is doing your own right at home.
We spoke with hairstylist Chelsea Schmitt from Jennifer Julia Salon on Chicago Street in Buffalo. She gave us some tips on how to keep your hair looking great while salons are closed.
In the last few weeks, she says she has gotten a lot of questions about filling in roots.
She recommends people use a root touch-up spray or use eyeshadow. If you have dark hair, use a dark eyeshadow. Blondes can also use a lighter eyeshadow to help cover those roots.
Chelsea says you should only cut your own hair if you absolutely have to. She says her clients with bangs sometimes cut their own in between appointments.
"You want to point cut them, never go straight across," Chelsea said. "It will blend in better, never pull down on your hair."
If you’re attempting to cut your hair at home, point-cut not straight across.

This is also a great time to give your hair some much needed TLC.
Chelsea says to give your hair a break from the heat, let it air dry or braid it. She recommends using hair masks or let the conditioner soak into the hair for 20 extra minutes.
"Especially if you have really curly hair or dry hair, just let it sit," Chelsea said. "Have this opportunity to make your hair the healthiest that is could ever be."
Jennifer Julia salon is still accepting online orders. They are offering non-contact drop-offs and pickups for people.
You can message them on their Instagram if you have more questions too.
