NEW YORK, N.Y. (WKBW) — Throughout the U.S. Women's Soccer win, the issue of equal pay has been thrust into the spotlight. Many people, including the players are calling on U.S. Soccer to pay the women, who make significantly less than the men, the same pay as the men.

Today during the team's victory parade in New York City, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the pay equity legislation, to close the gender wage gap in New York State.

The law makes it illegal to discriminate pay rates based on gender, gender identity, race, origin or religion.

Cuomo says there is no economic justification to pay men one rate and women another rate based on the same job.
