GObike and Alta Planning and Design announced planning and community outreach for the 80-mile Southern Tier Trail.

GObike said the trail is a multi-use trail connecting the City of Buffalo to the Town of Hinsdale, NY in the southern tier region.

GObike said the trail will follow the Buffalo-Pittsburgh Rail Road corridor and connect 20 Western New York towns and villages via a mostly off-road trail for non-motorized transportation.

It will have links to the 750-mile Empire State Trail and the 90-mile Genesee Valley Greenway.

The Southern Tier Trail will include the federally railbanked 27-mile Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail and the recently opened 1.8-mile Pop Warner Trail in Orchard Park, NY.

Public outreach for the project begins next week with a series of one-on-one stakeholder listening sessions. GObike will host a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, May 13, from 6 to 7 pm.

The project is supported by funding from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
