TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) — General Motors announced Monday it is investing $70 million into its engine plant in the Town of Tonawanda, signaling a long-term commitment to the site and its 1,150 employees.

According to GM, the investment will support increased engine production to meet customer demand for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

The Tonawanda plant, which is home to UAW Local 774, produces V-6 and V-8 Ecotec3 engines for the Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon Denali and the Cadillac Escalade.

GM is also investing more than $6 million into its metal stamping plant in Parma, Ohio.
