ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — Get out your fishing poles.

Fishing season for salmon and trout begins Monday, April 1st.

The The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) says there will be over 2 million catchable-size brook, brown and rainbow trout in 311 lakes and ponds across the state this year. In addition, the DEC will stock more than one million yearling lake trout, steelhead, landlocked salmon, splake and coho salmon this spring.

"New York is home to world-class trout and salmon fishing in virtually every corner of the state," Governor Andrew Cuomo said. "Heading out on opening day is a cherished tradition for generations of families, and I encourage New Yorkers and visitors alike to get outside and enjoy all the great fishing that our waters have to offer."

Anglers should visit the 2019 Coldwater Fishing Forecast to find out where they can find trout and salmon.
