Funeral arrangements set for Bishop Kmiec

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo has released the funeral arrangements for Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, the 13th bishop of the Buffalo diocese.

Bishop Kmiec passed away on Saturday following a brief illness.

According to a spokesperson for the diocese, the public will have an opportunity to pay their respects on Thursday, July 16, between noon and 7 p.m. Bishop Kmiec’s body will lie in state in the main sanctuary of the Cathedral of St. Joseph located at 50 Franklin Street in Buffalo.

The diocese says that the wearing of masks and social distancing will be required to attend.

Due to risks associated with COVID-19, the Mass of Christian Burial, which is scheduled for Friday, July 17, at noon, will not open to the public. According to the diocese, the mass will be livestreamed at noon on the website. 7 Eyewitness News also plans to share the livestream online.
