BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — In the midst of the government shutdown, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) of Buffalo is offering free tax prep and financial counseling for federal employees.

CCCS is a non-profit, full-service credit counseling agency, providing confidential financial guidance, financial education, counseling and credit repayment assistance to consumers since 1965. Its Niagara County Financial Literacy Coalition was formed to help low income Niagara County residents.

CCCS locations are offering free financial and credit counseling for federal employees. Appointments can include budget/spending plan review, referrals to community resources, tips to reduce expenses, Experian Credit Report, FICO Credit Score, and review of credit report and discussion. Those who wish to take advantage can make an appointment by calling 712-2060 or by visiting www.consumercreditbuffalo.org.

Additionally, the CCCS and the Niagara County Financial Literacy Coalition kick off their 2019 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program on January 29th where furloughed employees can get their federal and state taxes filed for free.

These tax services will be offered at two Niagara County CCCS locations:
The Pinnacle Community Services, 1522 Main Street, Niagara Falls
Orleans/Niagara BOCES, 50 Main Street, Lockport

Appointments will be available on Tuesdays in Lockport and on Wednesdays in Niagara Falls from January 29th through April 10th and can be scheduled by calling 712-2060.
