FREDONIA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A boil water advisory that had been in place since September 10th in the Village of Fredonia is now lifted.
New York State issued an alert Wednesday afternoon notifying residents they no longer need to boil water for drinking or food preparation.
However, they are still asked to conserve water until further notice. Earlier this week, engineers suggested that the less water was used, the sooner the boil advisory could be lifted.
Part of the reason for the advisory is because of a hot summer.
“The population of algae and plankton and other critters in the water exploded during late July and into the middle of August,” said one village water department engineer.
The mayor of Fredonia says to prevent this drinking water quality problem from happening in the future, he is proposing to add a second interconnect with the City of Dunkirk and adding another water storage tank.
