Former Boy Scout employee pleads guilty to possession of child porn

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — U.S Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. announced a former Boy Scouts of America employee who was arrested in July of 2018 pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola stated 34-year-old Russell Ruth uploaded five files containing child pornography to a Yahoo! server between March 13th and June 7th 2018.

Yahoo! intercepted the files and reported it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and it was determined following an investigation the files were uploaded by Ruth.

Investigators say electronic devices containing over 10,285 images and 602 videos of child pornography which included images of prepubescent children and images involving violence were seized.

Ruth was employed by the Boy Scouts of America in the Ovid, N.Y. area.

He is due back in court for sentencing in August.
