BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Riley the East Amherst Golden Retriever visits patients and war veterans at three different hospitals in the area as a therapy dog. Wednesday, Riley will be the first therapy dog to ever receive the prestigious Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Humanitarian Award at the VA Medical Center. The award recognizes outstanding members of society who have given unconditional service to their community and country.

In March 2018, Riley was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma cancer but that has not stopped her from visiting patients and offering emotional therapy over the past 11 months.

Legion of Honor awards will also be given to Michael Hoplight of Niagara Falls, Carl Eugene Moore of Buffalo, and Riley's owner, Greg Scott.
