BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — It appears that a floating barge has hit a pedestrian bridge in the Union Canal along route 5, according to our 7 Eyewitness News crew at the scene.

The wind and a small ice jam in the Union Canal are forcing the barge, which is holding stone, to slam into the bridge repeatedly. Part of the barge has punched through the bridge. Police and city workers have closed off the area. @WKBW pic.twitter.com/1ArrL9lsCE

Buffalo police and city workers have closed off the area in the 1700 block of Fuhrmann Boulevard pending further inspection. The incident happened around 12:45 p.m.
According to Department of Public Works Commissioner Michael Finn, the barge came loose off of its moorings and then struck the bridge.
The bridge sustained some damage and no injuries were reported.
