AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Getzville Fire Company along with three other agencies responded to the University at Buffalo's Dewey Hall for the report of a fire Sunday morning.
The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. Sunday, responding firefighters were able to locate the fire in a first floor dorm room and quickly put it out.
About 800 students were evacuated, the school says all have returned to their dorms except for two rooms directly impacted by the fire.
Fire officials estimated the damage at $50,000.
Initial investigation reveals the fire was caused by items placed too close to a heater.
