BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Preventing fires and saving lives.

That's the idea behind the Buffalo Fire Department's latest campaign.

Engine 36 and Ladder 13 on Elmwood and Hertel hosted the last of four fire house drive ups Saturday afternoon.

This is all part of National Fire Prevention Month activities.

Normally these events are an open house for the public, but because of COVID-19, things had to be changed this year.

People could drive up to the fire station and receive a free kids activity bag, and an adult gift bag as well, that included a free smoke detector.

Firefighters handed out over 800 free bags over the course of the four different events.
