NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — The family of fallen Korean War veteran, Meredith Keirns, was the centerpiece of a ceremony held at the American Veterans Monument in Niagara Falls. On hand was Jan Reeves, Keirn's brother who received flowers and a U.S. flag ahead of Memorial Day on Saturday.

“It’s hard," Reeves said as he choked up. "But it's nice."

Keirn's body was buried in Korea for 68 years and was finally returned to the United States last year. Keirns died while both he and his brother were serving.

“The fact that we were able to get Meredith Keirn’s remains back and have his brother Jan, who also served in the Korean War, made it a very special event," U.S. Representative, Chris Collins, said. “Its an important time to remind everyone of the sacrifices made in particular today and an emphasis on the Korean War.”
