BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Department of Health says it is now offering free rapid testing by appointment to students grades pre-K to 12 or staff members who are participating in in-person instruction who are showing COVID-19 symptoms.

"Young people, school age people, college age people, young adults that's where we're seeing many of our positive cases," said Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein. "People in that age group really have to be careful."

According to Dr. Burstein and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, there was only one COVID-19 death in Erie County this week, and there are currently 39 people hospitalized in the county due to COVID-19, with nine in the ICU.

Meanwhile, 48 percent of active COVID-19 cases in the county are in the City of Buffalo.
