BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — “We started this store to stay in Buffalo with our families, and that is probably the story that every small business owner has," co-owner of the Treehouse on Elmwood said. "And with that, we need our community's support.”

Business owners in Buffalo’s Elmwood Village and across Western New York are encouraging you to shop local. And the Amherst Chamber of Commerce is helping to make sure the community does so with their program Shop 716.

It's an online gift card that can be used at any of the more than 400 participating businesses, and with the first $25 gift card purchased, the county will give another for free.

"You’re getting $50 to spend locally, and it’s only costing you $25,” owner of Minuteman Press in Williamsville said.

“We’ve already had almost $20,000 issued in gift cards," President and CEO of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce AJ Baynes said. "We’re hoping to achieve a million-dollar interactions at the small business level.”

The buy one, get one promotion is up for grabs until the end of the year, and the gift cards are valid until 2022.

“Merchants can enroll online as long as they accept master card," Baynes said.
