BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A group that teaches children life lessons in the pool just got a big boost from Erie County.

Buffalo City Swim Racers received $15,000 from the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

The money comes from Erie County's asset forfeiture trust fund.

This after-school program gives children access to swimming pools and coaching.

It focuses on providing opportunities for children in minority and low-income families.

"We're here to provide that access and that opportunity so that ultimately we can break that cycle and get all kids across the community swimming," said Buffalo City Swim Racers coach Mike Switalski. "Swimming is the only sport where if you know how to do it, it can save your life."

The $15,000 donation will be used to buy swim suits and other equipment.
