Erie County District Attorney discusses new Extreme Risk Protection Order Law

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The so-called Red Flag Law that will take effect in New York state, Saturday.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn held a press conference at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, at the Erie County Library on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo.

According to the DA's office:

The law will allow a State Supreme Court Justice to issue an order to seize firearms from an individual who has not been charged with a crime, but poses a potential threat to themselves or others in an effort to prevent a tragedy.

This comes after three mass shootings within days of each other in Dayton, Ohio, El Paso, Tex., and Gilroy, Calif.
