BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) announced Saturday although there have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Erie County at this point, it is closely following the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) to coordinate any local response.

ECDOH says it is prepared to support local health care facilities and providers in identifying patients who have novel coronavirus symptoms as well as a travel history to impacted areas or contact with a confirmed case.

“Novel coronavirus symptoms are similar to other respiratory illnesses, including influenza,” said Erie County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein. “We would like to remind Erie County residents to continue to take steps to prevent the spread of respiratory infections with frequent handwashing, staying home if you are sick, and avoiding close contact with people who are ill.”
