DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WKBW) — For the past month Samantha Stokes was in one of the hardest hit places in the world when it comes to COVID-19, New York City.

“I got the call from Buffalo that they're taking volunteers and I signed up. I was quick to sign up and ready to go,” said Stokes. She works and EMT for AMR.

For a month she provided support as an EMT in New York City.

“In the worst of times, I was happy to be there to help,” added Stokes.

She says she's not allowed to tell too much of what she did down there, but she does have this message to share.

“No one is in this alone. We're all in this together. EMS Strong.”

On her way home to Dunkirk, her friends, family and fellow volunteer firefighters held a parade.

“Absolutely amazing,” said Stokes, about being escorted home with sirens blazing.
