Eldery man rescued from Village of Williamsville fire

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — Amherst Police say an elderly man was rescued from a fire in the Village of Williamsville Friday morning.

According to Williamsville Fire Department officials the fire occurred at the Georgetown Apartments on Evans Street just before 9 a.m. with smoke showing from a second floor apartment.

Officials say 87-year-old Vello Puust was found unresponsive and not breathing by firefighters, he was rescued with the assistance of the Snyder Fire Department. Twin City Ambulance was awaiting the patient outside and immediately began life saving measures.

The patient was resuscitated and transported to ECMC. Amherst Police say Puust is in serious condition with injuries suffered from smoke inhalation, Williamsville Fire officials say he is expected to recover.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Damage is estimated at $70,000 total.
