BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Dr. Roswell Park IV who had been battling cancer for 20 years, died on Wednesday.

The hospital cancer hospital named after his great-grandfather says Park IV was among the original volunteers with the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, which raises funds for cancer research and patient programs.

Park IV was the chair of the Walk For Life program since it started in 1997 and helped raise over a million dollars.

“He was the ideal person to be in that role. He understood cancer and loss," said Roswell Park Trustee Anne D. Gioia.

Candace Johnson, PhD, President and CEO of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, said Park was “an important member of the Roswell Park community, loved by so many staff and volunteers alike. He will be deeply missed.”

Roswell Park says a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

The cancer center says flowers are declined, and gifts in his memory may be made to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
