BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The University at Buffalo canceled all classes and activities late Tuesday night.
The university held off on making the call until nearly 11 p.m. despite heavy lake snow across the region and the threat of bone-chilling windchills.
The school issued the following statement:
"All University at Buffalo classes and activities scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 30, taking place on any of UB’s three campuses are cancelled due to severe weather conditions forecast for the region.
Heavy lake effect snow and high winds will bring blizzard-like conditions and severe wind chill which can elevate the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Students who reside on campus should stay indoors and exercise caution if going outdoors is necessary."
