Deputy arraigned on DWI charges, allegedly crashed ECSO vehicle while off-duty

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — An Erie County Sheriff's Office deputy was arraigned on DWI charges after allegedly crashing a sheriff's office vehicle while off-duty.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says 45-year-old Aaron M. Naegely of Orchard Park was arraigned on one count of driving while intoxicated, first offense, and one count of operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1% alcohol or more in blood., first offense, Wednesday.

Naegely was allegedly driving a sheriff's office vehicle while off-duty and under the influence of alcohol on October 2, 2020 when he was involved in a crash on Jewett Holmwood Road in the Town of Aurora.

The judge suspended Naegely's driver's license and granted him a hardship driver's license which allows him to drive to work and medical appointments only.

The district attorney's office says Naegely was released on his own recognizance and a return date has not been scheduled because of court restrictions due to COVID-19. He faces up to one year in jail if convicted on all charges.
