DEPEW, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Depew Police Department is warning of an increase of thefts from vehicles.

Police say there have been over 30 reported thefts from vehicles in Depew since December 1, 2020 and they were the result of parked vehicles being left unlocked overnight.

"The single greatest deterrent to these thefts is simply keeping vehicle doors locked and secured when they are parked and left unattended. Additionally, residents should refrain from keeping valuables in their vehicles such as smartphones, tablets, wallets, GPS units, cash/coins, gift cards, etc. If these items must be left in your vehicle be sure they are stored out of sight and lock the vehicle doors," a release from the Depew police says.

According to police, those involved in the thefts are "in and out" of the cars in less than 30 seconds.

Police say if you have any information regarding these incidents or have been a victim of theft you can contact police at (716) 683-1123.
