DEPEW, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Village of Depew is looking to regulate a possible deployment of 5G wireless technology in the community.

Verizon has been looking to expand its 5G service nationwide.

Here at home, the Depew Village Board discussed the future of 5G in Monday's board meeting. They will look to implement local law establishing design standards, fees and locations for SWFs, or small wireless facilitates.

These devices would be placed on top of electrical poles throughout the village, since they cannot be less 10 feet from the ground.

Cheektowaga had passed a similar 5G resolution last summer. Village of Depew mayor, Kevin Peterson, says they will likely follow a similar baseline as Cheektowaga with their implementation of the network.

There are still more questions to go over before implementing this proposal. Those include how many devices will have to be installed, how close together will the devices be placed, and what health concerns could come up with the network.

These questions will be sorted out when the Village of Depew meets with network reps at their next board meeting on February 10th.
