Deli worker charged with selling drugs near Hamburg schools

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Lackawanna man is facing federal charges for selling drugs inside a deli near two Hamburg Schools, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.

Mohammed Alawi, 52, is charged with possession with intent to distribute, distribution of a controlled substance, and distribution of a controlled substance in or near schools.

According to prosecutors, Alawi sold hydrocodone inside Bayview Deli on Bayview Road. The store sits across the street from Big Tree Elementary School and Frontier Central High School.

In 2016, Alawi was convicted of misbranding food held for sale.

He faces up to 40 years in prison and a $2,000,000 fine if convicted on the most recent charges against him.
