BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Working all year for their time to shine on stage, dancers at Tonanwada Dance Arts on Military Road in Tonawanda would have been getting ready for their recital this weekend.

Thanks to owner Melanie Boniszewski and her staff, their students are still getting a recital this week, but it's going to look a little different.

"The saying is no matter what happens, the show must go on, and we wanted to make sure we gave our families and dancers a performance," Boniszewski said.

"Dancing the Distance" a Zoom recital, will host more than 500 students to show off their skills. The living room has turned into the stage, and parents will have a front-row seat to the virtual show.

7ABC reporter Rebecca Thornburg crashed a dress rehearsal for a pre-junior class filled with eight and nine-year-olds. They are performing a jazz routine to "Pineapple Princess," where the ladies are dressed in sparkly yellow costumes and a green headband.

"This is the highlight of the year for students, to be able to do this online has been huge for students and still get a chance to perform; they are super excited."

Boniszewski says they have a few dates in June and August blocked off for students to get on stage and perform.
