BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Over 14,000 people laced up for the 124th annual Turkey Trot benefiting the Buffalo Niagara YMCA. The 8K (about 5 miles) went from Delaware Avenue in North Buffalo to Downtown Buffalo by the Convention Center.

Sam Morse of Camden, NY and Kelsey Gratien of Buffalo, NY took home first place in the male and female categories. Their times were 23:54 and 28:43, respectively.

The race isn't just about running, it's also about costumes.

Some runners opted for traditional Thanksgiving garb like Turkey hats, others were already looking ahead to Christmas dressing as Santa Claus, elves, and reindeer.

For some veteran runners, like Mary Tanner-Richter, it was the first time dressing in a costume.

"I've run it probably, oh gosh, probably at least ten times," she said. "But this is my first time dressed as an eagle, so I'm gunna fly this time."

The 2018 race raised over $350,000 for YMCA Buffalo Niagara.
