GENESEE COUNTY, N.Y. (WKBW) — Congressmembers Brian Higgins (D, NY-26) and Chris Jacobs (R, NY-27) are calling on the National Transportation Safety Board to send investigators to the scene of a deadly plane crash in Genesee County.
The crash killed prominent attorney Steve Barnes and his niece, Elizabeth Barnes, on Friday.
The NTSB issued a statement on Saturday saying investigators would not be traveling to the crash site due to COVID-19.
The local lawmakers issued a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration and the NTSB, saying on-site review will provide the best information on the case. They write, in part, “the agency must develop and execute an appropriate plan to adequately and safely examine the crash site as soon as possible. Neglecting to do so leaves crucial information about what caused this tragic crash unknown.”
